Help the Victims of Sichuan earthquake
A massive 8.0-magnitude earthquake centered in Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province in China occurred on May 12, 2008. The death toll for the earthquake has climbed past 65,080 on Monday May 26 and over 23,150 are still missing. Millions of houses are destroyed and millions of people become homeless. Temporary shelters, schools, food, clothes and medical supplies are urgently needed to help victims. Hundreds thousands are suffering from acute injuries and extended medical problems. We are moved to see that many local, national and international organizations are urgently calling for donations to help immediate need of these injured. Sino-American Network of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (www.santro.org), a non-for-profit organization to help cancer patients, is calling for donations to support these victims for their schools and health care. Sino-American Network for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology

Mission

Sino-American Network for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (SANTRO) aims to bridge Chinese and American Radiation Oncology communities for medical and educational exchange. SANTRO fosters communication among medical professionals from the United States and China for the delivery of high-quality radiation therapy to cancer patients. The specific mission of SANTRO is to:
1. Facilitate scientific and educational exchange between the United States and China in the field of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
2. Promote exchange of state-of-the-art techniques and scholars between the United States and China in the field of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology.
3. Establish a network for international clinical trials and for members interested in such a collaboration across the Pacific Ocean.


Vision

SANTRO is a non-for-profit organization that strives to serve as a network for scientific activity, educational courses, clinical trials, and scholar exchange for oncology professionals across the Pacific Ocean. Within the first 5 years, SANTRO hopes to:
1. Promote Chinese professionals to present state-of-art techniques, novel scientific findings and clinical trial concepts to the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) and to support and participate in ASTRO International Affairs activities.
2. Organize educational and scientific symposiums in China for enthusiastic professionals to present state-of-art techniques, novel scientific findings and clinical trial concepts to the Chinese Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (CSTRO)
3. Facilitate young physicians, physicists, and biologists to obtain doctorate or post-doctorate training in the United States and China, and promote expert professionals from the two countries to lecture and visit each other on an individual basis.
4. Establish a system and initiate a few quality-assured clinical trials and promote Chinese Cancer Centers to become international members of Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).
